Tobacco blossoms
Volunteers that popped up late summer 2017, slow growth over winter, so leaves are small & plants are short — during summer they’ll get 5 ft tall even outside. We’ve also had plants overwinter outdoors. Tough guys! I need to learn more about how these plants affect bees that visit; nicotinoids are very toxic to them. (BTW, those are shallots in the background, not weeds, but plenty of cleanup is overdue!)
Whats For Lunch? Bandon Life

How about a tortilla chip and a drip of hot sauce? After A wee kitchen project on Martin Luther King Day in Bandon… What I’m having.
Glaedengarden season’s end filtered serrano pepper sauce.
So…. There’s Tabasco, which is pretty good, aged and stuff like that, right? Well this sauce is excruciatingly fresh.
One of these will go and become our “Pastor’s Personal Pepper Preparation” sauce.
Last Pepper Harvest: 5-6 pounds
Picked a peck (and a half) of peppers yesterday, the last of the 2017 crop. 5-6 Pounds. There are still lemons on the Meyer, celery, lots of Swiss chard and spinach. Time to clean up the pepper beds and plant for winter: beets, carrots, arugula, lettuce. Experiment with Fall-planted Beefeater tomatoes: they have blossoms on them, but not looking too robust. Hopefully sunshine next couple of days will give ’em a boost! Thanks for stopping by!
New Year’s Produce
Mid-December Update
Picked a few lemons — many more to come. Prepping plenty of Peppers for freezing. Olives produced fruit this year, but may not quite push it out. Grapes also produced edibles at last! Greenhouse yielding lots of Swiss chard, spinach, peppers, arugula; need to replant, but waiting for the peppers to finish on the sunny south side. 7 Beefeater tomatoes 18” high and holding their own in these short days — a first-time winter experiment.Warmest Holiday Wishes to all Family & Friends!!

This morning’s sunrise ~ a passing thought made real!
It’s great that in the Winter months at this latitude, you don’t actually have to get up so stinking early that it hurts, to catch a sunrise. Kristin’s photo. What a beauty. ~ David
The rest of the story. I had just been listening to Joyce Meyer’s encouraging words: “Something good is going to happen today!” The language and assurance of Hope. At that moment, all I thought was, “Maybe there will be a stunning sunrise?” And a few moments later, there it was! ~ kristin

Grapes – Bandon viticulture possible
We wondered, having seen vines on the fence at the community garden in Coos Bay … so, with minimal effort…
Wow, they are so good!
